Five fairs make the 2012 spring event the biggest ever
At the OwnYard, OwnCabin, Own Home, Sisusta!, and Do It Yourself fairs, more than 600 exhibitors will offer information and products for living, building, renovating, free-time dwelling, gardening and decorating. The large-scale spring event, to be held at the Helsinki Exhibition and Convention Centre from 29 March to 1 April, is the biggest and most comprehensive of its kind yet. All events can be accessed with the same ticket.
A new feature at the fair is the demonstration area, where visitors can see, for example, live planting or terrace-building. The stages will feature daily information sessions on, for example, free-time dwelling and gardening, and question-and-answer sessions where experts discuss various topics, including domestic energy issues.
OwnYard to add a green touch to the venue
The 2012 OwnYard fair is a large and multifaceted event, which will not only introduce exhibitors’ products and services but also hundreds of square metres of show gardens. In the eight show gardens, fair visitors can check out, for example, a French kitchen garden, an urban garden in a detached house area, a garden with disabled access, and a relaxation area in an urban garden, and get some ideas on using wood and stone in the garden.
Also on show will be balconies that have been designed and created by horticultural schools and that abound with ideas on a number of themes. The show balconies will include the following themes: Japanese, rustic-romantic, pleasure-seeking, vintage, and lived-in. The stage, information area and exhibitors’ stands all offer hands-on information and garden management solutions for the visitors.
On Thursday 29 March, the programme features a high-profile seminar on green roofs. Visitors can also witness professional florists demonstrating their skills, when the Finnish Florists’ Association stages the Finnish flower arranging championships from 30 to 31 March at Helsinki Exhibition and Convention Centre. There is also a special programme for the little fair-goers, including a play area, a goblin forest and a garden party.
Sauna as the theme of OwnCabin
The OwnCabin fair presents products and services related to buying, building and repairing cottages. The fair offers information on sites, summer house manufacturers, energy and waste management solutions, jetties, outdoor pools, and a variety of outdoor buildings. One of the fair themes this year is sauna: in addition to the sauna buildings being shown by the exhibitors, the event programme includes seminars and information sessions related to sauna.
There are daily presentations, for example, on wastewater treatment and dry toilet solutions. Friday 30 March is the date of the great cottage seminar, in which representatives of parliamentary groups, municipalities incorporating many cottages, and cottage owners will discuss free-time dwelling issues. On Saturday 31 March, the programme will feature a toilet clinic, which will provide information about selecting, servicing and managing dry toilets. The biggest-ever section of toilets, at 300 square metres, will include various dry toilet solutions for indoor, outdoor, camping and restaurant use.
Useful information, DIY and guidance
The Own Home fair will present various building and renovation products, prefabricated houses, home fixtures, heating and energy products, and various housing services. In the guidance service area, experts will offer free, personal guidance in matters related to housing, building and renovating.
The Finnish House Owners’ Association will hold its 65th anniversary seminar entitled 65 vuotta paremman asumisen puolesta (“65 years of working for better housing”) at the fair. The Finnish House Owners’ Association stand will once again host the popular birdhouse-making event. Over the weekend, Pientalorakentamisen Kehittämiskeskus (“The development centre for single-family house building”) will organise a building course for single-family house builders and a course on energy-efficient renovation.
Making the 2012 spring event complete is the Do It Yourself fair. The fair will offer products and tips for home renovation, DIY projects and furniture restoration, and will present the tools and materials of the trade.
Sisusta! to bring magical energy to your interior
Now arranged for the fifth time, the Sisusta! fair will be offered under the heading “FOR Magic” and will present creative interior decoration solutions and magical energy to counterbalance everyday challenges and all-pervasive rationality. Based on the wishes of visitors, the fair will exhibit various interior decoration trends including those entitled Urban, Green, Vintage, Country, Scandinavian, Online Shop and Mixed. The Sisusta! fair will bring together interior decoration, gifts, accessories, crafts and Finnish design.
